The struggle reached the highest point when Noah said to his nation, “Oh my nation, I am a prophet from God, and I want to establish a system according to the instructions and values are given by God, so obey me as the first head of the system, and in this way you also will be fulfilling your obligation to God.”
“Obey only one God, the creator of the universe,” was the slogan given by Noah. The opposition jeered and mocked at the slogan. “He is alone, without any wealth. How can he be a messenger of God? He is just a man like you who is trying to impose his superiority on us. If God wants, He could send an angel instead of a common man to us and tell us to change our system. We are following the path of our ancestors, and they were better than this imposter. Who do you think is right: this imposter or our ancestors?”
In reality, the nation of Noah was cruel and enjoyed living against the law of God. Many prophets before Noah came and pointed out the mistakes in their conduct. The nation refused to listen and contradicted them.
The leaders of the nation ridiculed Noah and declared him a liar: “You are only a man like us; the people from the lower classes, who have no sense, are thoughtlessly following you. We don’t think you are superior to us in any way.”
Noah said, “Oh the leaders of my nation, have you no consideration for the illuminating reasons I am giving to you? God has blessed me with revelation; if you refuse to see all that, I can’t force it on you.”
“Oh Noah, how could we believe in your sayings when all the members of your party are lowly and poor laborers?” the rich leaders said contemptuously.
According to them the criterion for truth was money. The poor class had no money so their virtues carried no weight.
“It is not my concern to probe into their financial affairs,” replied Noah. “They are accountable to God for their actions. I want to make it clear to you that I am not going to forsake them simply because they are poor. This is an unpardonable offense in the eyes of God. Who will save me from His wrath if I commit this crime? Moreover, I was sent to warn you about the bad consequences of your inhuman actions, the coming doom, and not to shun humans because they have no money.”
“You are constantly threatening and insisting on a coming doom; wouldn’t it be better to bring one, instead of quibbling about it?” said the proud leaders with great contempt.
“I am not a regulator of doom,” said Noah. “Only God knows about the future events; but one thing is definite: when the time comes, according to the law of requital, you wouldn’t be able to stop or alter it. The final decisions are made according to the law of God; if you have touched the limit where the destruction must happen, my advice can make no difference. I can only say that your denial is going to be the cause of misery, whereas I am not responsible for it.”
